Meet the Playhouse Players Director

Chris West

Chris West brings several decades of experience in theatre, education, and production to his role as Director of Playhouse Players.

Chris earned his BFA in Theatre with a minor in Radio-TV from Texas Christian University and his MA in Theatre from Baylor University. After working in technical theatre at Monroe Little Theatre in Louisiana, he joined William Woods University in 1965. During his career at William Woods, he served in roles including designer, technical director, teacher, director, producer, Chair of Theatre Arts, Chair of Performing Arts, and Director of Radio-TV. He retired as a Full Professor.

Throughout his career, Chris has designed, directed, or produced more than 300 productions. At William Woods, he established the Summer Stock Workshop. He created the Broadway Semester, which gave students the opportunity to spend a semester in New York City studying and working with theatre professionals. He also helped upgrade the University’s performing arts and broadcast facilities and obtained the FCC license for the campus FM radio station, KWWC.

His work has been recognized with honors including Distinguished Professor of the Year, the Alumni Faculty Appreciation Award, and the Professional Achievement Award. His professional affiliations have included United Scenic Artists, IATSE, and the American Theatre Association.

As Director of Playhouse Players, Chris brings decades of experience in educational, community, and professional theatre to Brick District Playhouse.
